What You Put in Your Body Affects Your Health Greatly

I have always been one of those people who could eat whatever they wanted and never gain weight, and due to that fact, I never used to put much thought into what I ate. When I started experiencing health problems, my doctor ordered some tests and found that I was experiencing anemia due to an iron-deficient diet. I am grateful I had this "wake up call" before I continued to eat a bad diet for the rest of my life, because I soon also realized my diet was lacking vitamins and minerals. I changed my eating habits and began to feel much better. I began juicing to take advantage of all of the vitamins and minerals in healthy, fresh juice. I have learned a lot about health during my commitment to leading a healthier lifestyle, so I decided to start a blog to share my health advice with the world!

Costs Of General Surgery: Who Will Cover It?

Any kind of surgery can be both costly and necessary to a patient. When you are being recommended to have surgery, knowing what you will pay out of pocket is often a factor in deciding whether to get treatment. Here are some things to know about this tricky subject.

All Facilities Are Different

There are often fair market ranges for different general surgery procedures, but each facility sets its own prices within these specialties. The cost could depend on your location, the facility's amenities, and the number of staff in the department. Thus, you need to ask for pricing from the facility you are considering for surgery.

Your Insurance Matters

Whether you are insured or not, this can affect your prices. For example, some hospitals offer discounts to patients who don't have insurance coverage. Your insurance company may also negotiate a deal with the health care facility for lower rates. Definitely provide your insurance information when you are seeking quotes on a general surgery procedure. Find someone within your network or seek insurance approval for out of network care.

More Things Are Considered Surgery Than You Realize

You might be surprised to find that a procedure like an endoscopy or colonoscopy is actually considered surgery when it comes to medical billing. It involves an invasive procedure that requires anesthesia or sedation, although nothing is being removed or incised. So, make sure that you follow the appropriate deductibles or out-of-pocket limits for your procedure type. Also note that the intention of a procedure can affect how it's billed. For example, a routine colonoscopy that is meant to screen for cancer can be billed as a preventative service, which may greatly reduce its cost. A procedure that is meant to fix or diagnose a problem will be billed in a different way.

Price Isn't Everything

If you are recommended to have general surgery, chances are that price is just one of many factors. You'll also need to weigh the risks of a surgery procedure against the potential benefits of the surgery. You will want to get reviews of any surgeon or anesthesiologist that you will be under the care of so that you can ensure the highest rate of success for an invasive procedure. Although cost can be concerning to many patients, it is perhaps not the biggest factor to pay attention to; your health and safety matter a lot more in these situations.
