I have always been one of those people who could eat whatever they wanted and never gain weight, and due to that fact, I never used to put much thought into what I ate. When I started experiencing health problems, my doctor ordered some tests and found that I was experiencing anemia due to an iron-deficient diet. I am grateful I had this "wake up call" before I continued to eat a bad diet for the rest of my life, because I soon also realized my diet was lacking vitamins and minerals. I changed my eating habits and began to feel much better. I began juicing to take advantage of all of the vitamins and minerals in healthy, fresh juice. If you have cystic acne, you know that it is a painful condition that leaves you feeling like you just can't win. You may be able to feel pimples that never erupt, but you may feel powerless as to how to deal with them. A simple topical treatment just doesn't seem to do the trick, and in some instances you might actually cause more harm than good. Here are a few dos and don'ts to keep in mind as you cope with cystic acne.

Do pay attention to diet. Poor nutrition has a lot to do with your skin's appearance. Fruits, vegetables, and water are great for your skin. Alcohol, on the other hand, is not.

Do make an appointment with your dermatologist. It could be that you actually need a new treatment plan.

Do ask your doctor if your medication has something to do with your acne. Worsening acne actually has a connection to side effects associated with some types of medications. Lithium and barbiturates are the common causes.

Do not pick pimples. In fact, you are better off not touching your face at all in most cases. If you do pop acne hiding underneath your skin, you could actually create a dark red spot in your skin that you won't be able to cover. Plus, the acne is too far beneath your skin to actually reach, and you might just end up scarring yourself. Plus, do you really want to transfer bacteria from your hands to your face?

Do avoid most oils, which ultimately just clog your pores. If you notice that your face breaks out more often after you have used oils, avoid them using them in the future.

Do not wash your skin too often. The natural oil on your skin is actually good for fighting breakouts, and washing your face too often can have a harsh effect. Wash no more than twice each day, and always use soaps that are gentle on your skin with a neutral pH.

Do not dehydrate your skin with too many products. Most products do not reach the inner depths of your skin and don't help with cystic acne. Do use water-based makeup, which is less likely to clog your skin than oil-based products.
